Purpose
This Code of Ethics states the rules that govern editorial work across 24World Media: this corporate site, the publications in our network, and material we distribute for clients. It is published so that readers, advertisers, clients and partner publishers can hold us to it. Where a publication maintains additional rules of its own, both apply; where they conflict, the stricter rule governs.
1. Accuracy and verification
We publish what we can verify. Material facts are checked against primary sources or reputable reporting before publication; claims that rest on a single source are attributed to that source on the page. We do not invent quotations, sources, statistics, documents or events, and we do not publish rumours as fact. Developing stories are written so a reader can tell what is confirmed and what is still being established, and they are updated as facts settle.
2. Originality
Our publications carry original work. We do not copy, scrape, spin or republish other outlets’ reporting, wire copy without a right to use it, or feed-imported content. Aggregation, where used at all, means writing our own account with attribution and links, never republishing the substance of another newsroom’s work as our own. Plagiarism ends a writer’s or partner’s relationship with the network.
3. Independence and conflicts
Editorial coverage is decided on news value, not on the commercial interests of the group, its advertisers or its clients. Staff and contributors must disclose personal or financial interests that conflict with a story they are working on, and must not accept gifts, hospitality or payment intended to influence coverage. The group’s ownership of publications, its distribution service and its relationship with its sister wire Iconic News Wire are stated openly; common ownership is never disguised.
4. Commercial content
Paid, sponsored and client-supplied material that is published for a fee is labelled as advertising or sponsored content, and commercial links follow search-engine guidance. Commercial clients have no right to approve, alter or suppress editorial coverage, and editorial staff do not guarantee clients a favourable mention. If a commercial request cannot survive being labelled, it is declined.
5. Fairness and harm
People and organisations facing serious allegations in our reporting are given a fair opportunity to respond where that is practical before publication. We take particular care with private individuals, victims, minors and people in vulnerable circumstances: we publish identifying detail only where it is genuinely in the public interest, and we weigh the harm of identification against the value of the information, as our Corrections Policy describes for removal requests.
6. Sources
Anonymous sources are used sparingly, only where the information matters and cannot be obtained on the record, and the reason for anonymity is explained to the reader in general terms. We protect confidential sources. Sponsored or contributed material is attributed to its author or provider; attribution does not dilute the publishing outlet’s responsibility for what it carries.
7. Technology and accountability
Production tools, including automated and AI-assisted drafting and editing tools, may support our newsrooms’ work. They do not carry editorial responsibility: every published item stands behind a named desk that is accountable for its accuracy, originality and labelling, and no tool is used to fabricate sources, quotations or evidence. If technology-assisted material is wrong, the desk corrects it like any other error.
8. Corrections
Errors are corrected in the open under our Corrections Policy: fixed on the page, noted where the error was material, and never silently rewritten to pretend the mistake did not happen. A pattern of errors by a writer, desk or partner is treated as a standards failure, not a public-relations problem.
9. Enforcement
Breaches of this Code are handled as standards matters: review of the item, correction where readers were misled, and (for repeated or deliberate breaches such as plagiarism, fabrication or hidden commercial placement) removal of publishing responsibility or of the publication’s place in the network. Questions about this Code: 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, USA, or through the Contact page.
