Corrections Policy

What counts as a correction, how to request one, how requests are assessed, and the possible outcomes.

Our commitment

24World Media publications aim to get the record right the first time; when we do not, we correct it in the open. This page explains what counts as a correction, how to request one, how requests are assessed, and what outcomes are possible. It applies to this corporate site and, as a group standard, to the publications in our network; the publishing outlet’s desk makes the final decision on its own stories.

What can be corrected

  • Factual errors: names, dates, figures, titles, quotations, locations and other verifiable facts.
  • Material omissions: context whose absence makes a published statement misleading.
  • Misidentification: a person, company or product wrongly identified, pictured or captioned.
  • Company information: directory listings, service descriptions and announcements on this Site that are out of date or wrong.

Disagreement with an opinion, a headline’s emphasis, or the decision to cover a story is not by itself a factual error; those concerns can still be sent and will be read, but they are handled as editorial feedback rather than corrections.

How to request a correction

Use the Contact page (or the publishing outlet’s own contact route) and include: the publication and the story or page URL; the exact statement you believe is wrong; the correct information; and a source for it where one exists, such as a document, an official record, or a statement from the person or organisation concerned. Requests that identify the error precisely are assessed fastest. Anonymous requests are accepted, but we may be unable to report the outcome back without a reply address.

How requests are assessed

The publishing desk checks the claim against the story’s sources and, where needed, the source material itself. Outcomes are one of the following:

  • Correct: the error is fixed on the page and, where the error was material, a correction note is added so readers can see what changed.
  • Clarify: the facts stand but the wording could mislead; the passage is rewritten and, where appropriate, noted.
  • Editor’s note: significant new information after publication is added as a dated note rather than silently rewriting the original.
  • No change: the published statement is verified as accurate; we explain the basis when we decline.
  • Removal: reserved for content that is unlawful, was published in clear breach of our standards, or identifies a private individual in a way that creates a serious and disproportionate risk. Lawful reporting is not removed because it is unwelcome.

Timeliness and records

Corrections are handled as promptly as the check allows; a request that needs source verification takes longer than a typographical fix, and we would rather be right than fast. Material corrections on this corporate Site are reflected in the page’s “last updated” position where the template shows one. This policy itself is reviewed when our standards change.

Contact

Corrections: 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, USA, or through the Contact page. For a story on a network publication, contacting that publication directly is the fastest route; the directory links to every title.
